Dr. Santoro's early philosophy of considering her patient's total needs is the very essence of this facility. Her philosophy is to treat the whole person, since spiritual and psychological factors are often critical in a patient's physical recovery and well being.
Since 1976, Dr. Santoro has limited her practice exclusively to breast oncology and practiced only at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, which has the oldest approved cancer program in the nation. By tailoring treatment to the needs of each specific patient, Dr. Santoro's survival rates have been excellent.
Dr. Santoro is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a member of numerous research, academic and clinical societies that keep her at the leading edge of her field. She has appeared on several educational television programs, authored and co-authored publications on breast health and worked with New Jersey State legislators to increase funding for Breast Cancer research. She recently received the First Annual Christine Todd Whitman's Award for Outstanding Women in the field of Medicine.
As the volume of Dr. Santoro's practice has become quite large, in 1995 she carefully selected Sarah Schaefer, M.D., to assist her in rendering the high quality of care that all Breast Care Center patients have come to expect... and receive.
